Qualified to be Called

Submitted by Sydney Dedrick

Read:1 Corinthians 26-31

"Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth."

- 1 Corinthians 26 -

For so long I felt I wasn’t qualified to be called. At the time, I was a new Christian and according to worldly standards, I was the one late to the party. The first time I attended High School service, I remember feeling so small and inexperienced. There were girls my age leading worship and going on mission trips overseas, and there I was, not even baptized. Everywhere I looked I saw people more deserving, more qualified, more prepared than I thought I’d ever be to share God’s Word. But then one day, out of the blue, God called me. So here I am. Telling you right now that if you are sitting back, watching others, thinking you will never be as qualified as they are, you have it all wrong. Those people you are looking up to, along with almost every person in the Bible, were called. Despite how unqualified they or the world saw them, they were qualified in God’s eyes. I’m talking specifically about Mathew, Joseph, David, Rahab, Moses, Abraham, even Paul. For example Saul, who later became the apostle Paul, originally prosecuted anyone who followed Christ. I could go on and on but the point is that God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called. It's almost as if the prerequisite to being qualified for your calling is to feel unqualified. God uses the sinners. The ones who aren’t wise by human standards. The ones who stutter like Moses or even commit adultery like David. These people were broken in the eyes of the world, yet God saw them as qualified, and He gave them a calling. God called them into the light and gave them each a mission so that He could use them to spread His word to all the nations. Some of you reading this today might be feeling unqualified like Saul, but God calls you and He asks you to live a life worthy of your calling. He chooses you to be an example of His son for the whole world to see; so that they would know the unfailing love that their Father has for them.

Lord, while I might not know what you have called me to do, I know you will prepare me for it. Thank you for Your unfailing love, and that you have a plan and a purpose for my life. Help me to trust Your plan even when I don't understand it. Today I give my life over to You God. Use me however you need me, Amen
